Experimental Investigation of Wave Attenuation Using a Hybrid of Polymer-Made Artificial Xbloc Wall and Mangrove Root Models

Rising sea levels, strong wave currents and destructive human activities put coastal areas at risk of erosion potential flooding. Several countermeasures have been introduced—both artificial natural—to tackle the issue. This study investigated effectiveness use hybrid polymer-made Xbloc walls mangrove root models for protection against water waves. One wall was made up three units stacked on top each other joined together using water-resistant tape. The were designed SolidWorks AutoCAD software, 3D printed, laser cut then superglued. experiment conducted Nottingham Trent University Laboratory with a varying combination single/multiple models. change in wavelength, height, celerity period observed six different model arrangements. results revealed successful decrease celerity, height as well elongation (one cycle time). arrangement one two roots provided best protection, reducing by 5.50%, 26.46% 58.97%, respectively, also delaying 28.34%. lowest attenuation entire parameters stated containing only set model. Therefore, combined action printed better, because it facilitated dissipation energy to greater degree compared or separately.
